At many town hall meetings this week, the angry and frightened people fighting debate of Obama's healthcare legislation can be heard clearly shouting: "We want our country back!"
I couldn't agree more.
Alas, after eight years of Bush rule in which we were told to be afraid, to be very afraid of people of different color and national descent, those among us who believed everything the Bush administration said about our freedoms being endangered now had no outlet. President Obama doesn't use the mantra "a bigger attack is coming" or "this is a long war, and many people will die."
Now that Americans aren't getting the fear message from former Vice President Cheney and Bush, which they used to launch a false war against Iraqi citizens, the less educated among us now have no outlet for our fear. So we point to an American, Barack Obama, and say, that's the foreigner! That's what Bush was talking about! He's a danger to our nation!
I want my country back, the country we all knew and loved before George W. Bush and Cheney began secretly spying on Americans and torturing children of other nations. We lost so much of our strength, wisdom and confidence during the Bush years because he and his right-wing, religious conservative zealots on the radio and in our churches told us again and again America is in danger! We could all die any day! Don't have faith in yourselves! Have faith in the Republican Party!
Now, before the liar Bush and his sick, mentally ill presidency, even then Republicans were at war with President Clinton, but it never was this bad, with ill-advised citizenry believing everything they're being told by Christians, their pastors and other right-wing idiots to fear our president.
Please, stop and think before this all gets out of hand. This nation was never this angry, so violent, and something nasty is about to break because the Republicans and the weirdness of talk radio is fanning the flames of failure.
This nation must be stronger than this.
These are lies: That you will be forced to change your health insurance. That old people will be cut off from medical care by the government. That the health care plan will pay for abortions.
Those are all lies. Lies to make you angry, lies to make you panic.
Once again, you are in the hands of people who don't care one whit about you or whether you live or die, and I'm talking about corporate healthcare America. They will do whatever it takes to defeat this bill.
Now, Obama is not the enemy. The liars of the right who fan your emotions are the danger.
This nation is paranoid and the paranoid among us are those who listen only to right wing radio and sick and mislead pastors and ministers who push, push, push that the Democrats are trying to destroy our liberties.
The fact is, the Bush administration was the most historic assault on our civil liberties. If you believe in internment camps, look to Presidenttial Directive 51, which George W. Bush created and signed without Congress' approval. Want to see who your real enemy is?
It's not Obama. It's the Republicans. Read Presidential Directive 51 and there you'll find the death of Liberty.
Death planned for by George W. Bush.
Please, calm down, don't be afraid, seek the truth.
Obama is not a socialist. He is not a communist. He is not here to take away Americans' rights or anything else like that.
The liars are Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and other right-wing loudmouths.
I pray for you out there who worry that this is a plot through healthcare to destroy the Constitution.
George Bush destroyed the Constitution after 9-11.
